Nurses Respond to Call of Help in Haiti
It truly is astounding to witness the quick and great response to the tragic events that took place in Haiti last week. The American Red Cross alone has received over $24 million in donations through their text “Haiti” campaign. Here at Travel Nursing Blogs, we noticed a significant increase in readership over the last 7-10 days and one of the key factors in this is that nurses around the world are looking for information on how they can help and in part of their search found our article, “Nurses Association Coordinating Emergency Mission to Haiti.” There are though some instances where the willing help is struggling to reach those in need, as nurses in Nevada and all across the country are noticing. Hopefully these situations will be cleared up soon and all those wanting to help can do so.
So with the tremendous amount of queries into the earthquake relief of Haiti, I felt compelled to offer up as much information on how nurses and the general public alike can offer up assistance. Here are a few trusted sources in which you can learn what you can do to help.
1. RNs volunteer here
2. Donate funds to help send nurses to Haiti
3.Share this informational brochure on the RNRN at your healthcare facility
4. Make in kind donations of food, supplies, clothing, etc.
5. Call the RNRN hotline at 800-578-8225 to learn more
I just received a request from International Medical Corps and I’d like to share it with our readers:
International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization, founded by volunteer doctors and nurses and dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through relief and development programs. There are still thousands of patients seeking treatment of which approximately 80% are in need of surgery and are running out of time – especially with the tremendous aftershocks still devastating this country. The team is treating crush injuries, trauma, substantial wound care, shock and other critical cases with the few available supplies – And they’re in it for the long haul. I would love your help spreading the word by blogging or tweeting about IMC’s rescue efforts.
IMC is also promoting a text to donate campaign. Just text the word “Haiti” to 85944 to help the people of Haiti. Visit their site here. Use any and all means in getting the word out. Use your Facebook status updates to spread it amongst all your friends. Tweet it. Spread it. The initial response is great, but the world needs to keep it up as it will be some time before the country of Haiti will see any normality restored.
If you know of any other organization that is offering to help get nurses to Haiti, or any other needs for earthquake relief in Haiti, please comment below so that we can get the word out. Thank you.
