Healthcare Traveler magazine recently released its December edition which annually has its list of Recruiters of the Year (and Travelers of the Year). And with January approaching and the typical New Year’s resolutions articles beginning to make an appearance I started thinking that for some travel nurses one good resolution could be to find a new recruiter.

The impact that a good recruiter can have on your career as a travel nurse is very real and finding one that you can trust to stand up for you and get the job done is not something you should take lightly. A good recruiter with a good caring travel nursing company behind them should be someone that is not only professional, but someone you can trust and someone you should be able to have a relationship with.

It is often said that a recruiter is a travel nurse’s lifeline while they are out on the road so never just assume that the recruiter you started your travel nursing career with is the one you have to stick with.

Here are some previous articles we have written on the healthcare staffing recruiter and the travel nurse:

14 questions to ask your travel nurse recruiter

Tell me a little about yourself

So if you tried travel nursing, but did not have a good experience or are just tolerating your recruiter, maybe it is time to explore your options.

And the Healthcare Traveler article could be a good place to start. The recruiters listed are voted on by their travelers so it is a great recommendation of them by fellow nurses like you.

Here is the article: 2010 Recruiters of the Year

Today I put the finishing touches on submitting information to Healthcare Traveler magazine for the Medical Solutions nominee for Traveler of the Year. Their annual “Travelers of the Year showcase” will be published in their upcoming December issue.

I was inspired by the stories that our Recruiters sent me as they nominated their travelers to be considered as our company’s traveler of the year. The stories ranged from surviving a hurricane to delivering a eulogy at a patient’s funeral. But the one thing all these travelers had in common was their dedication and commitment to patient care.

It makes me realizes just how special our travel nurses are.

I get the Healthcare Traveler E-News and this month it had some interesting results regarding the effect that the high gas prices are having on travel nurses’ commutes.

They asked:

This big of an impact really surprised me, and made me wonder how it is affecting the travel nursing industry overall. I’m sure it has an effect on travel costs and pay, but has it discouraged any would be travel nurses from taking that first assignment? If it has, that is too bad. Besides the fact that travel nursing is a great way to bring a change of pace to your nursing career, it is also a increasingly vital part of the healthcare system of the United States and becoming more and more vital to combating the nursing shortage.
