There's travel nursing and then there's traveling nurse!
I’m sure most of you reading this blog are well aware of the many great benefits you can reap as a travel nurse. Often times you can pick and choose the locations you want to work in and for how long. You can usually make more money than your typical permanent nursing job and you have the opportunity to see this great country one city and assignment at a time. But did you know you can take this travel nurse career to the next level and go abroad? These types of jobs are usually more difficult to find, but offer you the chance to see the world as opposed to just our great country.
There are a few types of these offerings for nurses. The first being a travel nurse for a cruise line company. Cruise ships often employ nurses to treat passengers who become seasick, incur injuries while on the boat, and to help everyone have a safer and more enjoyable cruise. These jobs are great for anyone who is interested in seeing the world from a boat, seven to ten days at a time! You won’t have to pay anything to take these cruises, and of course you’ll be earning money while sailing around the coast of North America, South America, Europe, Scandinavia, The Caribbean and The Mediterranean!
Another great traveling nurse job is that of a vacation tour nurse. There are many companies that provide guided vacation tours employ nurses. It is imperative these companies advertise that there is a nurse on staff to ensure greater sales. This will also put the customers minds, at ease since they may be traveling to a foreign country or someplace exotic, this is especially true for guided tours marketed specifically for the elderly. If you decide to take this path, there is no end to where it may lead you… Paris one week and Tokyo the next!
A final option for nurses looking to travel abroad would be to become a military nurse. Throughout history, nurses have been signing up in times of war and peace to help with maintaining the health of our soldiers worldwide. As a military nurse, you’ll be the recipient of all the same benefits as soldiers and also have a chance at seeing the many great places around the world. There will always be a need for the military, which means there will without a doubt always be a need for someone to take care of those who protect and serve for our country. Uncle Sam needs you.
Finding a travel nursing job doesn’t have to be difficult. The only difficult part of the job is to decide where to go next. Travel nursing is not for everyone, but if you’re up for the challenge and ready for the experience, there will be plenty of jobs for you to choose from. If you are interested in becoming a vacation nurse, you should contact cruise lines and travel agencies directly. If you’re interested in a military nurse position, you should inquire with your local military branch. Good luck and godspeed.
